MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES

HLCFI is advocating for the welfare of mentally ill patients in Camarines Sur. Last June 2008, the staff and community workers of HLCFI underwent a 5-day orientation on psychosocial rehabilitation in the primary health care system. Since then, HLCFI has been developing a program for a community-based mental health care.

Last June 2008, the staff and community workers of HLCFI underwent a 5-day orientation on psychosocial rehabilitation in the primary health care system under Dr. Lourdes Ladrido Ignacio and Dr. Cynthia Leynes of the UP-PGH Department of Psychiatry. Since then, HLCFI has been developing a program for a community-based mental health care in cooperation with the municipal health workers such as doctors, municipal nurses and midwives, and baranggay health workers.

Every month HLCFI hosts a telementoring and teleconferencing referral with the UP PGH Department of Psychiatry, and consults with senior psychiatrists and residents regarding the mental health issues of indigent patients from different parts of Camarines Sur. Recently, HLCFI and the City Health Office of Naga held a free mental health clinic in Barangay Cararayan. Other communities under the program include Bombon, Libmanan, Lupi, and San Fernando. At present, mental health management training for the baranggay health workers is already being implemented in the partner communities.

Communities included in the mental health program at present include Naga City with 25 clients, San Fernando with 7 clients, Cabusao with 5 clients, Bombon with 12 clients and Tinambac with 7 clients.
